Maple Products from Québec has once again affirmed its support for the development of cyclists, at all levels and in all disciplines, by launching its On the Road to Rio with Maple Products from Québec program.

Three cyclists among Québec’s medal hopefuls at the Rio Olympic Games will enjoy the support of this program:

Karol-Ann Canuel

Canadian time trial champion, Karol-Ann also holds world titles in team time trial for 2014 and 2015. In 2016, she’ll cycle for the Dutch Boels-Dolmans team.

Raphaël Gagné

Canadian cyclocross champion Raphaël Gagné just completed a dream season, during which he won gold at the Pan-American Games, the Canadian XCO title, and the overall title in the 2015 US Cup series. Raphaël also enjoyed his best ever season on the UCI World Cup circuit, regularly posting Canada’s best results.

Rémi Pelletier-Roy

Rémi Pelletier-Roy is Canada’s finest endurance track cyclist. In January 2015, he won the national Omnium championship at the new Milton Velodrome. In September 2014, he earned the bronze medal in the omnium at the Pan-Amercian Championships. Also in 2014, he took home bronze from the scratch race at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

A long way to Rio

As the benefits of maple to athletic performance are now well known, athletes will receive nutritional guidance from a member of the sports nutrition team at Vivaï, as well as maple products to incorporate into their diets.

During the following months, we will follow Karol-Ann, Raphaël and Rémi as they train for the Rio Olympic Games, which will be held from August 5th to 21st 2016.

Check back soon for news of their preparations!

Let’s wish them excellent performances, fuelled by Québec maple.

Everywhere it goes, consumers of all ages appreciate maple’s unique flavour.

Scientists are studying maple’s potential health benefits

Studies now underway include those on the antioxidant properties of the polyphenols naturally present in maple syrup, with a recent study indicating that maple syrup is better for cardiometabolic health than refined sugar.

Maple syrup can be used as a sugar substitute in most recipes

In cake and most dessert recipes, for each 250ml (1 cup) of syrup used, simply reduce the stipulated amount of liquid (water, milk, juice, etc.) by 60ml (1/4 cup).
