UK Consumers Keeping It Natural Boosts Canadian Maple Syrup Import Figures

According to figures recently released by the Québec Maple Syrup Producers (QMSP), UK consumers’ love of natural ingredients has helped the value of imports of pure Canadian Maple Syrup to jump to their highest ever.

More than CAN$24 million worth – almost five and a half million lbs – of maple syrup and associated products such as maple sugar were imported into the UK during the period January-August 2025. The value of imports is up 17% on the same period in 2024.

“While market trading prices can of course affect the overall value of imports into the UK, the quantity is on an upwards trajectory and that is great news for the 13,300 maple syrup farmers and processors that we represent” says Vincent Grondin from Maple from Canada, the marketing organisation behind Québec Maple Syrup Producers (QMSP).

Maple from Canada has also seen more direct imports of maple syrup in flasks into UK grocery market rather than bulk maple syrup for repacking in the UK.

“Our research tells us that the authenticity of pure Canadian maple syrup is important to consumers, so UK retailers are meeting this demand in their purchasing strategies. Bottling at source means consumers have the reassurance that they are buying a pure, unblended maple syrup with a unique taste and authentic origins,”

Vincent also attributes the popularity of Canadian maple syrup to the present interest in natural alternatives to processed sugar and the versatility of the ingredient across recipes.

“We have made a conscious decision in our marketing to focus on the visuals of exciting new recipes that often tap into the latest viral food craze. Working with food influencers and recipe developers for social media content, which tells the story of Canadian maple syrup, its natural origins as well as its usage in exciting, healthy recipes has been key to targeting the UK consumers.

“Maple syrup has been repositioned as more than a breakfast condiment but a naturally grown and harvested, functional ingredient that can be used in a vast range of savoury and sweet recipes. The flavour of maple is big news in several retailers’ Christmas 2025 ranges too.

“We are delighted that consumers seem to love maple syrup and that this is being reflected in the latest positive export figures,” Vincent Grondin concludes.
