Baked Camembert with Maple Crunchy Bacon, Chilli & Walnut Topping
2 portions

Ingredients

For the Baked Camembert

  • 1 Camembert
  • 1 small handful walnuts, crushed
  • 2 rashers streaky bacon, chopped
  • 1½ tbsp Pure Canadian Maple Syrup
  • 1–2 pinches chilli flakes (adjust to your heat preference) or 1 sliced red chilli.
  • Small pinch salt
  • Chopped Chives

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C-350°F. Remove Camembert from wrapping, place back in its box, score the top in a cross.
  2. Fry chopped bacon on medium heat until crisp.
  3. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, melt butter, add walnuts and chilli flakes and cook 1–2 minutes. Pour in Pure Canadian Maple Syrup and let it bubble until glossy.
  5. Stir crispy bacon into the maple‑glazed walnuts. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  6. Bake the Camembert for 10-15 minutes until soft in the centre.
  7. Spoon the bacon and walnut mixture over the hot Camembert. Add chopped chives.
  8. Serve immediately with crusty bread.

Made for festive sharing, pure maple syrup brings a mellow sweetness that softens the kick of chilli without overpowering it. Its rich sweetness contrasts with salty, smoky bacon, creating that classic sweet-savoury combination. When heated with the bacon and walnuts, maple creates a glossy, caramelised finish that adds richness and texture.

More about maple

The colour and flavour of maple syrup changes in subtle ways during the seasonal harvest

At the start of the sugaring season, the syrup is generally clear, with a light, sweet taste. It becomes darker with a caramelised flavour as the season progresses throughout the spring.

An unopened can of maple syrup keeps for many years

Once the can is opened, syrup should be kept in an airtight container in a cool place.

Maple spread doesn't contain any butter or dairy products

Like all 100% pure maple products, maple spread comes from the sap of the maple tree — that’s all.
