
Christmas Leftovers Croque Monsieur

Ingredients
For the Croque Monsieur
- 25 g softened butter, plus extra for frying
- 4 slices white bread
- 125 g (4 oz) Gruyère cheese or Stilton trimmings
- 4 slices maple-baked ham
- mustard (quantity per preference, typically spread on bread slices)
Method

- Butter both sides of each slice of bread.
- Spread mustard on one side of each slice.
- Split the cheese and ham in half.
Assemble and cook
- Make two sandwiches with the mustard-spread sides facing inwards, layering ham and cheese evenly.
- Heat a griddle pan over medium heat.
- Fry the sandwiches for 3–4 minutes on each side until bread is golden and cheese has melted.
Serve
- Remove sandwiches from pan, cut in half, and serve immediately.
