Maple Pecan Brussels Sprouts

Christmas / Sides

4 portions

  • 2 dozen Brussels sprouts, trimmed and cut in half
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 255g pecan halves
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup (preferably amber syrup for its rich taste)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Add oil to skillet on medium-high heat. When hot, add the Brussels sprouts. Sauté for about 8-10 minutes, stirring fairly often, or until the Brussels sprouts are nicely browned and tender-crisp.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in the butter and pecans. Cook for 4-5 mins.
  3. Stir in the maple syrup and cook for about a minute. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and serve immediately

Though they divide dinner tables across the country, Brussels sprouts are still a key component of Christmas dinner – and they don’t get much better than in this one-of-a-kind Brussels sprouts recipe. Perhaps the best way to cook sprouts at Christmas, these sautéed sprouts are enriched with butter, pecans and pure maple syrup to form a rich and deliciously sweet flavour.

More about maple

The colour and flavour of maple syrup changes in subtle ways during the seasonal harvest

At the start of the sugaring season, the syrup is generally clear, with a light, sweet taste. It becomes darker with a caramelised flavour as the season progresses throughout the spring.

An unopened can of maple syrup keeps for many years

Once the can is opened, syrup should be kept in an airtight container in a cool place.

Maple spread doesn't contain any butter or dairy products

Like all 100% pure maple products, maple spread comes from the sap of the maple tree that’s all.
