Sizzling maple king prawn in a skillet on a grill

We’re just days away from the August Bank Holiday, the time of the year when Brits up and down the country get together for a BBQ!

If you’re planning a grilled feast over the long weekend, we have a number of BBQ recipes worth adding to your rotation.

From classic meats and veggie dishes to grilled fruits and summer cocktails, there’s truly something for everyone.

Each recipe is enhanced with pure maple syrup, adding a touch of sweetness to your summer bank holiday BBQ!

Sizzling maple king prawn skillet

There’s nothing quite like king prawns cooked hot and fast on the grill. True to form, these sizzling prawns fail to disappoint.

The marinade, made with garlic, chilli, paprika and maple syrup, is incredibly simple but still packs a serious punch.

You only need to leave the prawns to soak in the marinade for around 10 minutes before transferring them to a hot grill.

From here, the prawns only need a couple of minutes on each side to cook through. Make sure to leave some of the marinade to pour over the prawns upon serving!

Grilled maple and balsamic mushrooms shawarma

Who said BBQs are only for meat lovers? This stunning mushroom shawarma, soaked in a sweet and savoury marinade, proves otherwise.

The mushrooms are skewered and then coated in the marinade, which consists of balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, pepper and maple syrup.

Once seasoned, the mushrooms are grilled for a couple of minutes on each side before being served with your choice of sides.

We recommend using button or portobello mushrooms for this recipe, and you can easily add other ingredients like peppers or courgettes to the skewers for extra variety.

Maple sugar pie rub BBQ pork belly

A stunning centrepiece fit for any BBQ, this maple pork belly is sweet, smoky and oh-so succulent!

If you’re looking for crispy pork crackling, you’ll need to start the preparations the day before by rubbing salt into the skin to dry the meat and extract the moisture.

The following day, you can apply the sweet and smoky sugar pie rub, made with cinnamon, paprika and maple sugar.

Additional flavour is provided by the maple syrup and sherry vinegar glaze, which is poured generously over the cooked pork belly after being left to rest.

Don’t be surprised when your guests are fighting over the last slice!

BBQ grilled summer fruits with maple and bourbon

End your bank holiday feast on a high with this BBQ fruit dish, enriched with a splash of your favourite bourbon.

There are plenty of fruits that are great for grilling, and in this recipe we’ve gone with cherries, peaches and raspberries.

The peaches are cooked directly on the BBQ until grill marks form, before being transferred to a pan with the cherries and raspberries.

A mix of bourbon and maple syrup lends incredible flavour to the fruits, with toasted hazelnuts and several heaps of ricotta completing the dish.

Pure maple syrup adds a welcome splash of sweetness, balancing well with the rich flavour of the passion fruit.
