The Great British Bake Off: five maple-based baking recipes to try at home

September means many things: summer gives way to autumn, the days continue to get darker and, most importantly, we get a new series of The Great British Bake Off! The show, now in its thirteenth season, sees amateur bakers take to the famous Bake Off tent to test their baking skills.

To celebrate the return of the nation’s favourite baking show, we decided to revisit some of our favourite baking recipes. From vegan cakes to delicious pastries and puddings, this list has something for all aspiring bakers!

Five incredible baking recipes with maple

Below, you’ll find five amazing baking recipes to try at home during this year’s edition of The Great British Bake Off. Follow the links for more information about each recipe, including ingredients and cooking instructions.

Maple eclairs

These maple eclairs from Emma Duckworth are a challenging but incredibly satisfying bake. Nailing the choux pastry is key to this recipe; make sure to keep to the timings listed in the instructions and be gentle when moulding the dough.

The light pastry is filled with a maple-infused cream and coated with a maple glaze to form some of the sweetest eclairs you’re ever likely to taste. A sprinkling of candied pecans on top provides an added crunch.

Vegan strawberry cake

This list wouldn’t be complete without a couple of vegan baking recipes, and they don’t come much better than this beautifully layered vegan strawberry cake from Whisk me Free. The plant-based ingredients stand up to their dairy-based alternatives in taste, to form a truly delicious dessert.

This vegan strawberry cake is also impressive in its appearance, with the buttercream-filled layers, dual-coloured batters and topped strawberries coming together to create a stunning centrepiece fit for any dinner party.

Maple syrup sponge

If you’re tight on time but still fancy a delicious bake, look no further than this maple syrup sponge cake. All you need to do is beat butter, eggs, milk, flour and maple sugar together in a bowl before heating the mix in a microwave.

This simple sponge, enriched by the natural sweetness of maple sugar and pure maple syrup, boasts immense flavour. The entire baking process takes only a matter of minutes, making this indulgent dessert the perfect baking recipe to try with the kids.

Vegan chocolate cake

Another relatively simple recipe, this vegan chocolate cake serves as an excellent introduction to vegan baking. Made with avocado, soya milk and dairy-free chocolate, this vegan cake has a rich and decadent texture that’s typical of dairy-based chocolate cakes.

Maple syrup makes its way into the batter, adding an extra splash of sweetness to an already-indulgent dessert. It’s paired perfectly with the sugary spread that sandwiches the two layers of the cake together.

German yeast cake

Our final pick, a blueberry-based German yeast cake, takes time to prepare but is certainly worth the wait. This traditional German delicacy serves as a wonderful dessert and pairs excellently with a warm cup of coffee.

Sweet and simple, this fruit cake is soft on the inside and has a crumbly outer layer that’s sweetened with a sprinkling of blueberries and maple sugar. The result is a delicious cake that’s unbeatable both in taste and texture.
